Method
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar with 1 cup of the water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. This creates a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a pitcher, combine the lemon juice and cooled simple syrup. Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir well.
- Taste and adjust: Add more water if too tart. Add a little more lemon juice if too sweet.
- Chill thoroughly and serve over ice with lemon slices and mint.
